Sometimes You Have to Tear It Down to Build It Better

Why Creating a Life You Love Requires the Courage to Start Over

A year ago, I built a beautiful stone patio in my backyard. Clean lines, elegant layout, a space that felt like a personal sanctuary - crafted with love, care and intention.

And this summer, I’m tearing it down.

Not because it wasn’t working. Not because it wasn’t beautiful. But because the vision I now hold for the future—one that includes a pool and a completely reimagined outdoor space—requires something different.

That patio wasn’t built for where I’m going. And that’s the truth about growth: sometimes, even what’s good has to go to make space for what’s great.

White piggy bank, red wallet, coins, and a $100 bill on a marble surface. Bright and organized financial theme.

A Leader’s Perspective: When Evolution Calls

Throughout my career - whether I was building multimillion-dollar fashion teams, launching wellness businesses, or mentoring others - I’ve learned one truth again and again: what got you here won’t always get you there.

To lead a business, a team, or even just your own life well, you have to be willing to recognize when the foundation no longer supports the future you envision.

That kind of clarity takes courage.

Tearing it Down Isn’t Failure—It’s Forward Motion

We’re often taught that success means building and holding on. But in reality, the most powerful transformations begin when we let go of what no longer fits.

It’s not defeat - it’s discernment.

Whether you’re stepping away from an outdated structure in your life, a role you’ve outgrown, or a system that no longer aligns, honoring the shift is the first bold move toward what’s next.

I’ve made those shifts in boardrooms, in personal reinventions, and now in my own backyard.

Sensing the Shift: A Leader’s Skill

When you lead your life with intention, you develop a sensitivity to what’s changing beneath the surface: Market shifts– Energy shifts– Team dynamics– Internal desires

True leadership isn’t rigid. It’s adaptive. The most forward-thinking leaders, and individuals, are the ones who stay curious and open, even when change means deconstructing something they once poured their heart into.

That’s how you stay relevant. That’s how you stay aligned.

From Patio to Pool (and Everything In Between)

Growth requires vision—and revision.

Just like my patio is becoming a pool, every area of our lives deserves that kind of intentional refresh. What once felt like a final version may actually be the springboard into your next evolution.

But it’s not just about spaces - it’s about people too.

Let’s stop clinging to fixed identities or static roles. Let's give ourselves, and those we lead, the permission to grow beyond what once defined us. This is how you build a culture of expansion, creativity, and trust.

Your Life Is the Ultimate Project

You don’t need to manage a team or hold a leadership title to think like a leader. If you’re actively shaping your life, making bold decisions, and investing in your growth—you are leading.

You are the architect of your future. And sometimes the bravest thing you can do is pause, look at what you’ve built, and say: This needs to change.

That’s not giving up. That’s growing up.That’s power.

This Week’s Reflection:

What part of your life are you holding onto simply because it’s already built?

Ask yourself:– Is it aligned with who I’m becoming?– Does it still light me up?– Or is it time for something new?
